ABOUT UNIVERSITY Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University

Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala has been established with effect from 20th December 2019 under the State Legislature Act No. 19 of 2019, as the first Open University in the state of Punjab. The University is empowered to award degrees as per the provisions of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and has also been granted recognition under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The University endeavours to open new vistas for education and employment seekers through its extensive network of Learner Support Centres. It is committed to the philosophy of “education for all” and has been actively extending its outreach to diverse groups, including learners in jails, rural and remote areas, persons with disabilities (PwD), and SC/ST communities. In alignment with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) of the Government of India, the University has adopted a learner-centric approach to teaching and learning, with a strong emphasis on online and digital modes of programme delivery. It continues to expand its academic offerings by introducing a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and skill-based programmes. As a multidisciplinary institution, the University is supported by full-time faculty across its seven Schools of Learning.
