RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CELL

The Research and Development Cell (RDC) at Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala, plays a vital role in fostering a strong research culture among faculty, students, and scholars; conducting systemic research to enhance the effectiveness of the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system. RDC encourages interdisciplinary collaborations across departments and with external organizations to bring diverse perspectives to research; promoting innovation and the integration of new technologies and methodologies suitable for distance education. As per the UGC mandate, five sub-committees have been constituted by the competent authority.

Responsibilities of Sub-committee

Sub-committee 1:
(Finance and Infrastructure)
Finance and Infrastructure is responsible for overseeing the financial planning, resource mobilization, and physical and technical infrastructure that supports an organization's research activities.

Sub-committee 2:
(Research Programme, Policy Development)

The Committee shall facilitate research strengthening and promotion in the University, identification of thrust areas for research in various Centers, research guidance and monitoring through different activities including interaction with various stakeholders of the University, creating enabling provisions in research policies for recruitment of research personnel, procurement of equipment, and financial management with adequate autonomy to the Principal Investigators) and disseminate research out comes to stakeholders and the public at large, as well as monitoring and overseeing research progress to ensure a timely completion of the project as per schedule.

Sub-committee 3:
(Collaboration and Community)

The Committee shall act as a facilitator for networking & collaborative research at the national and international level with research, development and engineering organizations, institutions, associations, NGOs, government bodies, as well as encourage collaborative research and consultancy with industry. The Committee may also encourage formation of research clusters to bring researchers, faculty, students, scholars, and Post-Doctoral Fellows within and outside the University for joint research projects to avail national and international funding opportunities. The Committee shall organize events like capacity-building and capacity-guiding programms, research internships and researcher mobility programmes. The Committee shall also take initiatives to sensitize the research community to understand the importance of integrity and ethics, and comply with ethical codes of research and publishing practices at institutional, national and global levels.

Sub-committee 4:
(Product Development, Monitoring and Commercialization)

The Committee shall organize events to create awareness & exposure about product/technology development, designing & prototype development along with the hands on training on associated advanced techniques and technologies. It shall also organize training programmes in the domain of technology management and technology commercialization and take initiatives to establish product/technology development networks. It shall create system for enabling commercialization of research and technology transfer. The Committee shall catalyze and facilitate incubation, entrepreneurship and innovation.
