Short Biography
- Prof. (Dr.) Shruti Bedi is a distinguished Professor and the Director of the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) at Panjab University, Chandigarh. She holds degrees in B.Com (Hons), LL.B., LL.M., and a Ph.D. from Panjab University, and is an International Fellow at the National Institute of Military Justice, Washington DC, USA. She also serves as the Director of the Centre for Constitution and Public Policy (CCPP) at UILS and has been a Visiting Professor at several international universities across the UK, Canada, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Brazil. An eminent scholar in Constitutional Law, Counter-Terrorism Law, Internal Security Law, and Comparative Public Law, Prof. Bedi has authored and edited 10 books and published over 90 research articles in leading international and national journals and edited volumes, including those by Springer, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Sage, Routledge, Brill, and Penguin. Her academic influence also extends to research mentorship, having guided multiple Ph.D. scholars. Prof. Bedi is a member of the Executive Council of the India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER), Goa, and has served as Editor and Editorial Board Member for reputed international and national legal journals. She is also a reviewer for prestigious publications including the Oxford Human Rights Hub Journal, Australian Journal of Asian Law, and various top-tier law school journals. A recipient of several accolades, she is an eight-time Gold Medalist and was honoured with ‘The Phenomenal She’ Award (2022) by the Indian National Bar Association and a commendation from the British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh for her contribution to India–UK academic engagement. Prof. Bedi is frequently invited as a keynote speaker, panelist, and expert resource person at international and national conferences, including engagements with leading global universities, research centres, and government institutions. She also delivered the TEDx talk “Justice: The First Promise”, reflecting her commitment to justice, constitutionalism, and democratic values.
