Promotion Cell, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala plays a key role in strengthening the outreach and visibility of the University. The Cell disseminates information about the University’s learner-centric schemes, community engagement initiatives, and opportunities available through Open and Distance Learning. The Promotion Cell undertakes targeted outreach programmes, with special focus on educationally backward and remote regions, to extend the benefits of the University’s special schemes, including initiatives for differently abled learners, jail inmates, and the teaching and non-teaching staff of educational institutions. It coordinates promotional activities across the University and ensures timely communication about programmes, events and schemes through digital platforms and community-based outreach. It raises awareness about the relevance of ODL education by organising seminars, webinars, and campaigns on social concerns such as the Drug Free India initiative. The Cell also contributes to environmental awareness through plantation drives at Learner Support Centres and in villages adopted under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. To strengthen admission-related outreach, the Cell actively connects with Schools, Colleges, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Centres, Anganwadi workers, Red Cross units and both Government and Private Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), with particular emphasis on teacher-education institutions. Promotional activities are also carried out in city-based educational hubs such as IELTS centres, coaching institutes, bookshops and computer cafés. Posters and flex boards are displayed in prominent public locations in both urban and rural areas. The University’s programmes are further promoted through radio stations, newspaper advertisements and pamphlets, as well as through displays and counselling at cultural, religious and historical fairs. Through these initiatives, the Promotion Cell advances the University’s mission of inclusive and accessible education and supports the development of an informed and engaged public that recognises the value of flexible and learner-friendly higher education.
