Short Biography
Dr. Prerna Singh is a trained sociologist with a Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Anthropology from Punjabi University, Patiala. A Gold Medalist at the postgraduate level, she brings over four years of combined teaching, research, and field experience to her academic career. Her areas of specialization include Sociology of Development, Sociological Theories, Environmental Sociology, Socialization, and Research Methodology.
Dr. Singh has been actively engaged in higher education since December 2021, serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology. Her academic responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, mentoring, evaluation, curriculum engagement, and participation in co-curricular and academic development activities. She has also contributed to digital learning initiatives as a Teaching Assistant for SWAYAM MOOCs, particularly in the course on Social Stratification, gaining valuable experience in online and blended modes of instruction.
Her research focuses on socially relevant themes such as childcare institutions, juvenile justice, child development, gender, public policy, and development studies. Her doctoral research, titled "Sociological Assessment of Childcare Institutes in Patiala District," critically examined institutional care, rehabilitation, and reintegration mechanisms under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. Through this work, she contributed meaningful insights into child welfare systems and policy implementation frameworks.
Dr. Singh has served as a Gender Expert in state-level Social Impact Assessment studies and has been associated with projects under the Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission. Her field-based research and policy analysis have provided empirical contributions toward understanding child rights, institutional care, and gender-sensitive development practices.
She has published six research papers in peer-reviewed journals and has presented more than ten research papers at national and international conferences. In addition to her academic contributions, she actively participates in faculty development programs and is committed to student mentoring and academic excellence.
Dr. Singh’s academic work reflects a strong integration of theoretical knowledge, field research, and policy engagement. Her contributions align with the broader vision of promoting inclusive, socially relevant, and transformative higher education.
