Short Biography

  • Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Kaur Kaang is a distinguished scholar of Gurbani, Sikh Studies, and Medieval Punjabi Literature, currently serving as Professor at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib. With over 42 years of teaching and research experience at Panjab University, Chandigarh, she has made unparalleled contributions to the study and dissemination of Sikh philosophy, ethics, and Punjabi culture. A Gold Medalist and Ph.D. in Punjabi from Panjab University (1981), Dr. Kaang has held several prestigious academic and administrative positions — including Chairperson of the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Fine Arts, Senate Member, and Board of Finance Member. She also served as Chief Editor of the UGC-CARE listed Panjab Journal of Sikh Studies for a decade (2011–2021). An accomplished author, she has published 19 books, 75 research papers, and presented over 90 papers at national and international conferences. Her notable works include Guru Granth Sahib Vich Sachiar: Sidhant te Vihar, Guru Gobind Singh Ji da Bharti Samaj te Sabhyachar Nu Dein, and Ikivee Sadi de Pahle Dahake de Punjabi Bhasha, Sahit te Sabhyachar. Dr. Kaang’s visionary leadership led to the introduction of new academic programs such as M.A. in Comparative Study of Religions and several interdisciplinary initiatives at Panjab University. She has organized major World Punjabi Conferences, international seminars, and exchange programs with universities in Canada, the USA, and the UK. Her UGC-funded research project, “Application of Teachings of Guru Granth Sahib in Solving Human Problems of Modern Life,” highlights her commitment to applying Sikh philosophy in contemporary contexts. She has been honored with numerous national awards, including the Punjab Rattan Award (2018), Vidya Shri Award (2016), and Bharat Jyoti Award (2021) for her outstanding contribution to education, research, and Punjabi heritage. Deeply devoted to the promotion of Punjabi language and Guru’s universal message, Dr. Kaang continues to inspire scholars worldwide through her academic excellence, cultural leadership, and interfaith dialogue.
