Short Biography
- Dr. Gulshan Kumar is a distinguished Professor of Economics at the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, Chandigarh. With 25 years of teaching experience, he holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Applied Industrial Economics from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. His primary research interests lie in Development Economics, Gender Economics, and Industrial Economics. Dr. Kumar is a prolific researcher and has published numerous papers in prestigious journals, including those by SAGE and Springer Publications. His work covers a wide array of topics, from the performance of industries in Punjab to the quality of life of transgender individuals in India. He recently completed a major research project on this topic, funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). A respected academic, Dr. Kumar is actively involved in research guidance, having successfully supervised several Ph.D. scholars with more ongoing. He is a sought-after expert, frequently invited to deliver lectures at Faculty Development Programs and chair sessions at national and international conferences. He also serves on the advisory boards of various research journals and is an active member of several academic and administrative committees at Panjab University. He has taken the initiative to establish Centre for Trans Studies, (RAINBOW) at UILS which intends to deal with transphobia and gender sensitisation in society.
