ਜਗਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਟੇਟ ਓਪਨ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਸਕੂਲ ਆਫ ਰਿਲੀਜੀਅਸ ਸਟੱਡੀਜ਼ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ਬੋ ਨੂੰ ਵੰਡਣ ਲਈ ਕਾਰਜਸ਼ੀਲ ਹੈ। ਇੱਕ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਰੀਤ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਕਾਰਜ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਿਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਉੱਪਰ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਰਮ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਦਾ ਵਿਭਾਗਹੋਣਆ ਇਕ ਲਾਜਮੀ ਕਾਰਜ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ । ਧਰਮ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਇੱਕ ਲੈਬੋਰਟਰੀ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸਨੇ ਤੱਥ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਸਹਿਤ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਅਜਿਹੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੈਵੀ ਗੁਣ ਉੱਭਰ ਕੇਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸੇ ਮਕਸਦ ਤਹਿਤ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਇਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਰਟੀਫਿਕੇਟ ਕੋਰਸ, ਡਿਪਲੋਮਾ ਕੋਰਸ ਅਤੇ ਡਿਗਰੀਕੋਰਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਲੈਕਟਿਵ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਸੁਚੱਜੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜਾਚ ਦਰਸਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵਚਨਬੱਧ ਹੈ।

School of Religious Studies established in Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala is working to distribute the fragrance of religions. It is a social tradition that no human activity is complete without religious activities, similarly having a department of religious studies in the university established in the name of Guru Nanak Patshah was a necessary task which was completed. The Department of Religious Studies functions like a laboratory, which has to explain religion with facts and truth. With such an interpretation, divine qualities emerge in humanity. Under this objective, the university through this department is committed to show the proper life-examination of religion through certificate courses and diploma courses and elective subjects in degree courses.
