Dr. Gurdip Singh Batra is presently Professor of Commerce/ Management and Director (Planning and Monitoring) at Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala. He has earlier worked as Dean Academic Affairs, Dean Research and Controller of Examination at Punjabi University, Patiala. He has also worked as Dean Faculty of Business Studies and Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Punjabi University, Patiala. He is former Head, University School of Applied Management and School of Management Studies, Punjabi University Patiala. He co-ordinated a course on Corporate Entrepreneurship at the Wilkes University, Pennsylvania, USA. He is visiting Professor at the University of South Pacific Fiji, Samoa and Kingdom of Tonga in the South Pacific Region.
He did his Post-Doctoral Research on Globalization of Financial Markets from the College of Business Administration; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA in 2001-02. He is Commonwealth-AMDISA Post Doctoral Fellow and worked on a research project on Environmental Management Strategies of Corporate Enterprises in Malaysia, Singapore and India at National University of Singapore and University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is presently working on a research project on Impact of Pandemic COVID 19 on Higher Education Learning: A Comparative Study of Malaysia and India jointly with a team from Nottingham University, UK and Sunway University, Malaysia.
His present research engagement includes research project on Students’ Attitude towards Entrepreneurship jointly with a team from University of South Pacific Fiji and a Study on Development of Leadership Skills with the research team from the University of South Pacific. He visited North America, South America, South East Asia and various Asia-Pacific countries on different Academic and Research assignments.
He has more than 39 years of research, training, consultancy and academic experience. He has 43 books and more than 100 research papers published to his credit in various national and International journals of repute. He is a member of editorial board of various national and International journals. His teaching areas include Accounting, Finance, Strategy, Corporate Entrepreneurship, Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility. He has been associated with organizing number of Seminars, Workshops and the Industrial Training programs in India and abroad. He has guided 45 research Scholars towards completion of their Ph.D. degree.
He has worked as the Co-ordinator of SAP-UGC project on Entrepreneurship Development and Small Scale Industries at School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala. He has also worked on another UGC sponsored research project on Foreign Investments and its Impact on the Corporate Sector.
He was conferred with the Best Teacher Award by Manav kalyan Parishad, Punjab in 2016. He was conferred Young Researcher Award by the Indian Accounting Association for his accomplishments in the accounting area. He was honoured with the life time achievement award by Economic Growth and Research Association of India in 2012. He is recipient of Management Excellence Award 2015 by Himachal Pradesh Commerce and Management Association for his overall contribution in promoting Institution building and management excellence.
He is an expert committee member of AICTE and UGC, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India for various professional assignments. He is member of academic and administrative bodies of various universities and Institutions of repute in the country.
He has also worked as Nodal officer, Redressal of Public Grievances cell of Punjabi University, Patiala.
He has been a member of Punjabi University Syndicate, Senate, Finance Committee, Academic Council, and Investment Committee.
He is an Associate Editor of Journal of Accounting, Finance and Economics, Melbourne, Australia. He worked as Chief Editor of Indian Management Studies Journal of School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala from 2014 till 2017 and Chief Editor of PCMA Journal of Business of Punjab Commerce and Management Association during 2013-14.
He has been instrumental in forging International linkages of Punjabi University, Patiala with Wilkes University, Pennsylvania USA, INSEEC France, University of British Columbia, Canada, University of Northern British Columbia, Canada, University of Wisconsin, Park Side USA and University of South Pacific Fiji etc.
