The School of Languages at Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University has been established to take the leaners on an odyssey into the fathomless world of Literature in English. The courses have been designed to ignite in learners the passion for reading and writing, and to develop their intellectual, political, and creative responses to literature and the world around them. Whereas the courses in English Elective hold the significance to polish their literary sensibilities, other contemporarily relevant courses have also been designed to sharpen the critical faculties of the learners. With the turn of the century, English has emerged as a lingua franca of business, popular culture, and higher education not only pan India but across the globe too. Hence, the perceived power that the language holds cannot be denied and as a result, the customised courses, to address the demands of the market, can play an important role in enabling the learners to carve out better professional prospects and socio-economic opportunities for themselves.

Two certificate courses, in order to equip the learners with the skillset to successfully deal with the challenges they may encounter in their personal, professional and social spheres of life, have been designed and approved to be offered in the upcoming session:

1. Certificate Course in Effective Business and Social Communication.
2. Certificate Course in The Science of Happiness at Work.

Underscoring the need to make the courses learner-centric, participants in the courses will be engaged in an array of challenging and enrichment activities through assignments and seminars. Due attention will be paid in developing literary appreciation, generating creative ideas, expanding critical thinking to enhance the level of confidence of the learners for their holistic development so that any deficiency in skill or practice does not limit their horizons. We will help them spread their wings and take zealous flights in the spectacular skies of success. As the literary luminary William Shakespeare rightly put forth:
