The School of Languages (SOL), Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala is committed to the symbiotic relationship of teaching and generating awareness about larger concerns of society. SOL is dedicated to excellence in research and teaching. The School conducts counselling sessions and skill enhancement activities for the holistic development of students. SOL faculty members are distinct in their field and promote Indian Knowledge system with high-quality research, translation, innovative teaching and meaningful community impact. SOL structures its academic programmes to accommodate initiatives of UGC, changes that reflect development of language studies and the mission of the University. SOL provides programmes related to languages of Punjabi and English. New areas of study in languages, literature and linguistics have been added to the curriculum of the courses. SOL offers comprehensive programmes in Master of Arts English and Punjabi as well as Certificate course in Effective Communication. While the PG programmes are open to undergraduates from all disciplines, the Certificate course is available to learners who have qualified 10+2 in any stream from recognized Board. Through a curriculm that engages learners with canonical texts, ccontemporary literature, language developments, the faculty of languages invests in the conviction that words matter. The School regularly organizes interdisciplinary seminars, workshops and symposia to sensitise learners about intersection between digital technology, culture, gender and justice. MA Punjabi programme of the School is dedicated to linguistic and cultural heritage of Punjabi-speaking world. From the poetry of Bulleh Shah to the modern literature of diasporic communities, learners are acquainted with the complexities of Punjabi language, literature and cultural identity. English and Punjabi courses are also offered in various undergraduate programmes of the university. The curriculum in languages explores the historical, social, and political contexts and prepares learners to take careers in academics, journalism, translation, content writing, advocacy and research.
